What? No.
Heard on NBC Nightly News for 12/19/08 (I’m late with my podcasts) a story about the Xmas letter writing to Santa program by the Postal Service. It opened with something along the lines of ”It’s a tradition almost as old as the holiday itself…” and went on to talk about the program for needy kids to write letters to Santa and the Postal Service to deliver them.
Okay, huh? I was raised by an atheist and even I know that the Christmas holiday started, like, a WHILE AGO and the Postal Service…um a LOT more recently. Even if the invention of the program somehow managed to happen simultaneously with the very first piece of post delivered to the New World, we are still talking about hundred of years here.
I’m just saying this really stretches the boundaries of the definition of the word “almost.”
